Driver Education is offered at the school by an outside RCSD contractor. The course will consist of a mandatory 30-hour classroom instruction and 6-hour in-car instruction.

The 30 hours of instruction will be delivered via Microsoft Teams and is a requirement to complete to be eligible to take a Class 5 road test at the age of 16.

Please sign up by attending the registration night, please bring your customer number (obtain this from a SGI License Issuer)

YOU MUST REGISTER A MYSGI ACCOUNT BEFORE THE 1ST CLASS.

NOTE:  THE LINK TO THE ONLINE TEAM IS SENT TO YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL ACCOUNT 1 WEEK PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS.

Students must be 15 years of age before the first day of class to enrol.

Students aged 14 years and 9 months will be able to enrol if there is space, this will be communicated through an announcement at school.

If you are currently 15 and this class does not have space or you cannot attend, you can still get your learners license while you wait to enrol in the next class so your 9 month learning period begins.

To do this you are required to challenge the exams at the SGI test office.  This is important to know as you are required to have a valid learner’s licence for at least 9 months before you can challenge your road test at the age of 16. Be aware that the 30 hours of class still has to be completed if you get learners ahead of time.

Student Instructions for Obtaining SGI Customer Number and MySGI Account

Step 2: Attend Driver Education Registration Night:

Dates for upcoming registration nights will be posted on Edsby, the school website, and around the school. Registrations are only taken on registration nights. If the student can't attend, a parent may attend on their behalf.

Step 3: Complete the Signature Form for First Time Drivers given out on registration night.

Step 4: After you have your SGI Customer Number:

Admission into, and continuation within, the Driver Education Program will be based on students displaying the four habits of success: (1) attend school regularly and punctually, (2) come each day with a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard, (3) complete all work to the best of your ability and turn assignments in by due dates, (4) prepare for exams. School suspension or withdrawal from school will result in being discontinued from the Driver Education Program and having your learner's license revoked.

Students meeting program requirements become eligible on an age basis, with the oldest given first opportunity. The only cost to the student will be the usual cost of a license and a fee for road testing. The student's own ability and desire to learn will determine whether they are able to pass the final road test.
